Jean-Benoît Dunckel

Jean-Benoît Dunckel étudie la musique classique et le piano au Conservatoire de Versailles, puis les mathématiques et les sciences physiques à la faculté d’Orsay. Il enseigne en collège avant d’entreprendre une carrière de musicien professionnel. Depuis 1996, il est l’un des deux membres du groupe AIR, l’autre étant Nicolas Godin, avec lequel il participe à des bandes originales mythiques pour des films comme Virgin Suicide, Marie-Antoinette ou Lost in Translation de Sofia Coppola. En 2003, il fonde une société de production phonographique et d’édition musicale, Prototyp Recording, basée à Paris. En 2012, il fonde le groupe Tomorrow’s World avec Lou Hayter, avant de sortir un album solo intitulé « H+ » en 2017. Il enregistre également un album électronique avec Jonathan Fitoussi sorti en 2019 sous le nom « Mirages », à la suite de leur rencontre lors de la Biennale 2018 de Venise orchestrée par Xavier Veilhan.

Jean-Benoît Dunckel studied classical music and piano at the Conservatory of Versailles, before studying mathematics and physical sciences at Orsay University. He was working as a high school teacher when he decided to launch his musical career. Since 1996, he has been one of the two members of the band AIR, the other being Nicolas Godin. Together, they contributed to the legendary musical scores of movies like The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette and Lost in Translation, all directed by Sofia Coppola. In 2003, he created the record production and music publishing company Prototyp Recording, based in Paris. In 2012, he founded the band Tomorrow’s World with Lou Hayter, before releasing a solo album entitled “H+” in 2017. Jean-Benoît Dunckel also recorded an electronic album with Jonathan Fitoussi released in 2019 called “Mirages,” after a meeting between them during the 2018 Venice Biennale orchestrated by Xavier Veilhan.
