En instance de divorce, Nola Carveth est placée sous la surveillance du Dr. Raglan qui a développé une nouvelle méthode controversée pour soigner les troubles mentaux. Soudain, de mystérieuses créatures s’en prennent à Frank et à Candice…

In the process of divorce, Nola Carveth is under the care of Dr. Raglan, an unconventional psychologist who uses innovative and theatrical techniques to breach the psychological blocks in his patients. When Candice, Nola’s daughter, comes back from a visit with her mother and is covered with bruises and welts, Frank, the father, attempts to bar his wife from seeing the daughter but faces resistance from the secretive psychologist. All of a sudden, Frank and Candice are attacked by mysterious creatures…

Il étudie à l’université de Toronto, où son intérêt pour le cinéma le pousse à réaliser deux courts métrages, Transfer et From the Drain. Il tourne ses premiers films, Stereo et Crimes of the Future, à la fin des années 1960. Il y explore les thèmes et préoccupations qui caractériseront plus tard son travail, notamment la violence et la sexualité, la réalité et la réalité transformée, la satire sociale et l’horreur biologique. En 1996, il obtient le Prix Spécial du Jury au Festival de Cannes pour Crash. En 2018, il reçoit un Lion d’Or à la Mostra de Venise pour l’ensemble de sa carrière.

He studied at the University of Toronto, where he became interested in film and made two shorts, Transfer and From the Drain. His first films were Stereo (1969) and Crimes of the Future (1970). In those works, he established and explored some of the themes and concerns that would characterize and define much of his later work – including violence and sexuality, reality and altered reality, and social satire and biological horror. In 1996, he won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for Crash. In 2018, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Venice Film Festival.
