Clovis Cornillac apparaît pour la première fois sur grand écran dans Hors-la-loi (1985) de Robin Davis, avant d’être révélé au grand public en 1999 avec Karnaval de Thomas Vincent, qui lui vaut une nomination au César du meilleur espoir masculin. En 2003, il est à l’affiche du film d’horreur Maléfique d’Éric Valette, lauréat du Prix spécial du jury au Festival de Gérardmer cette même année. Par la suite, l’acteur est nommé au César du meilleur second rôle en 2004 pour sa composition dans À la petite semaine de Sam Karmann, César qu’il remporte l’année suivante avec Mensonges et trahisons et plus si affinités… de Laurent Tirard. Il prend part également au délirant Brice de Nice de James Huth (2005). L’acteur est ensuite à l’affiche des Brigades du Tigre de Jérôme Cornuau en 2006, puis reprend le rôle d’Astérix, deux ans plus tard, dans Astérix aux Jeux olympiques. Il fait aussi beaucoup d’apparitions à la télévision, notamment dans Mister Bob de Thomas Vincent ou encore dans la série télévisée Chefs, diffusée sur France 2, et réalise plusieurs longs métrages dont Couleurs de l’incendie (2022), l’adaptation du roman éponyme de Pierre Lemaitre. En novembre dernier, Clovis Cornillac interprète le rôle principal de Monsieur le Maire, réalisé par Karine Blanc et Michel Tavares, dans lequel il incarne le maire d’une petite commune rurale des Alpes, déterminé à se battre pour maintenir les commerces et préserver l’école d’une fermeture annoncée.
Clovis Cornillac first appeared on the big screen in Robin Davis’ Outlaws (1985), before reaching wider audiences in Thomas Vincent’s Karnaval (1999), which garnered him a César nomination for Most Promising Actor. In 2003, he starred in Éric Valette’s horror film Maléfique, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Gérardmer Film Festival that same year. The actor was then nominated for the César for Best Supporting Actor in 2004 for his composition in Sam Karmann’s Nickel and Dime, César which he won the following year with Laurent Tirard’s The Story of My Life. He also participated in James Huth’s outrageous The Brice Man. He went on to appear in Jérôme Cornuau’s The Tiger Brigades (2006), before taking on the role of Astérix two years later in Astérix at the Olympic Games. He has also appeared frequently on television, notably in Thomas Vincent’s Mister Bob and the series Chefs broadcast on France 2, and has directed several features including The Colors of Fire (2022), an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Pierre Lemaitre. Last November, Clovis Cornillac played the lead role in Monsieur le Maire directed by Karine Blanc and Michel Tavares, portraying the mayor of a rural small town in the Alps determined to help businesses survive and protect a school from an announced closure.
