Ariel Escalante Meza
Né en 1984 au Costa Rica, il est diplômé en sciences politiques de l’Université du Costa Rica et en cinéma de l’Ecole Internationale de Cinéma et de Télévision (EICTV) de Cuba et de l’Université Concordia de Montréal. Son premier long métrage, The Sound of Things, remporte le prix Kommerzant au Festival de Moscou 2016 et représente le Costa Rica aux Oscars 2018. Également monteur, il travaille sur une dizaine de films, dont Red Princesses de Laura Astorga (2013) et La Danse du serpent de Sofia Quiros Ubeda (2019). En 2017, il reçoit le Prix national des Arts des mains du ministre de la Culture costaricien. Domingo et la brume est son deuxième long métrage.
Born in 1984 in Costa Rica, he graduated in Political Science from Universidad de Costa Rica, and in Cinema from Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba and Concordia University in Montreal. His feature debut The Sound of Things won the Kommersant Prize at the 2016 Moscow Film Festival and was selected as the Costa Rican entry at the 2018 Academy Awards. He also edited about ten films, including Laura Astorga’s Red Princesses (2013) and Sofia Quiros Ubeda’s Lands of Ashes (2019). He is a recipient of the 2017 National Prize for the Arts from Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture. Domingo and the Mist is his second feature.
